





Introduction to Floristry Professional Course- Two Day
Learning from the one of the best multi-award-winning wedding florists in Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire. Our small team are extremely enthusiastic and passionate about our job. Combined years of experience of over 40 years, we have learnt how best to work, and many of these tips and tricks we will teach you over the two days. Keeping up to date and on trend is an important thing in the floristry world, customers will choose you based on the trends they are seeing and your latest work. This can include the types of flowers and colours you are using but also how we work and what style we work in. Its constantly changing from year to year and you will need the ability to move with the times.
This two day course is perfect if you are at the beginning of starting your floristry career, a complete novice or have some experience in floristry.
You will receive your very own essentials box to keep and use over the two days. This includes Floristry scissors; floristry knifes and everything you need to become a good florist!
Over the course you will be learning:
First, we will take you through the basics of floristry. Everything you need to know about 'conditioning' flowers, how to care for them, this also applies for different stem types, how much water they require. You will need to know when the right stage to use each flower for what you are making whether it be a hand-tied or an arrangement.
Colour theories, we will show you the best combinations of flower colours, what works well together and what does not.
Show you a bit about how the wholesalers that we use, majority of flowers are priced per stem and some foliage's are priced per bunch.
We will show you botanical names for flowers throughout the course and this will also help you with online shopping at the wholesalers.
The hands on part where you’ll be guided by our trained florists:
The art of spiralling hand-tied bouquet is something you need to master before you go on to do anything else, we will show you how to make a hand-tied design, a hand-tied within a vase and learning how to gift wrap hand-tied bouquets to sell.
On to the fiddly part of the day where we will teach you wiring techniques such as the men’s buttonholes and the different ways to make them.
Ladies’ corsages are a slightly more elaborate than buttonholes but still keeping within the theme of the wedding or event.
Also, the best techniques to make a flower-crown perfect for a baby showers, parties, flower girl or bridesmaids.
You will learn how to create an oasis arrangement within a container. How to use oasis and learn how best to cut each flower so it has maximum retainment of water from the oasis. What flowers and foliage’s last the longest in an arrangement like this.
Showing current methods of working will allow you to be more sustainable and better for the environment. We will teach you how to make a foam free arrangement in a container and the best tips to be able to make something like this.
The days will run from 9am till 3/4pm each day.
Refreshments will be provided throughout the days but please bring a packed lunch. A presentation will be given to you of what you have learnt day by day, flower names and their botanical names you have used in each arrangement will be listed. The tips and tricks we have shown you over the two days will also be featured, you may want to bring a pad and pen if you want to make more notes yourself. You will also leave with your very own Tineke certificate to say you have attended our introduction to Floristry course! Along with ongoing help with our dedicated Facebook page to our students where you can ask for help if required. We look forward to welcoming you to our creative studio.
